Inside Frederick
For businesses
If you run something in Frederick, here are three things you can do today, all free. Below them: how the guide stays independent, what a listing carries, and what is for sale.
- Report a correction
Correct a listing
Wrong hours, a new phone number, a move, a closing or a new name. Say what has changed; we check it against your own website or another source and fix it, usually within a day or two.
- Submit an event
Submit an event
Anything open to the public, such as a tasting, a class or a market day, goes on the events calendar for nothing. We need the date, the time and a link to your own page about it.
- Email a photograph
Send a photograph
One you took or hold the rights to, with how to credit it. The email opens with the questions we need answered. The photograph rules.
How the guide stays independent
- Listings are free and editorial. Nobody can pay to be listed, to be placed higher, to be called a pick, or to have a listing taken down.
- Every listing is checked against a source, usually your own website, and shows the day it was last checked.
- We write the listing from the facts; we do not publish wording a business dictates, or remove a listing because a competitor asked.
- Sponsorship, where it is sold, is labeled as sponsorship and sits beside the listings, never inside them. It buys nothing in them.
The editorial policy has the detail, and it binds us as much as anyone.
What a listing carries
Inside Frederick lists 17 businesses and venues in Frederick, and 8 parks and trails beside them, 25 places in all, because they are here, not because anyone paid. A listing carries your name, what you are, where you are, when you are open, your phone number and your website, a sentence or two on what you are known for, and a photograph if we have one we are allowed to use. It shows whether you are open right now, worked out from the hours on the page, and it appears in the directory, in the site search, and beside any event held at your address.
Every place page has an “Own or run this?” link at the foot of its details, which reports a correction about that listing. For hours, one line in your words is best, such as “Tue–Sat 10–5; closed Sun–Mon”: we keep it in that shape so the site can tell readers when you are open. Know something opening or closing? Tell us.
Not listed at all? Tell us by email. If you are in Frederick and open to the public, you belong here.
Photographs
Most listings have no photograph, and one from you is welcome. It should show the place itself, ideally the front or a detail that says what you do; landscape, at least 1600 pixels on the long side if you have it; and nobody recognizable as its subject unless they have agreed.
Permission is in writing: an email from the person who took the photograph, or who holds its rights, saying this guide may publish it and how to credit it. If a photographer took it for you, their agreement may be needed too. We keep that email with the photograph’s record, and take the photograph down whenever its owner asks. We do not copy photographs from a business’s website or social media, or from review sites. A photograph from any of those is used only when its owner sends it to us with that permission.
Credit goes under the photograph wherever it is shown in full, as the license or the owner asks, and on the photo credits page, which also covers the cards and link previews where a caption will not fit. See the photo credits. To send one, email it to hello@insidethetowns.com.
What is for sale
Sponsorship, labeled as such, beside the editorial and never inside it. A sponsor’s name appears on a page or in the weekly email as “presented by”, with a link. It does not change a listing, the order of a list, or what we write. The placements on this guide are:
- A “presented by” line on the events page and the weekend page, which list what is on each week.
- A labeled block on Moving here, the guide’s page for people about to move to Frederick.
- A line at the top of the weekly Inside Frederick email.
One sponsor per placement, so a sponsor is not competing with three others on the same page: the most a page carries is that one and the network’s own sponsor line, which is sold for every guide at once and labeled the same way. Prices are not published yet: ask, and we will quote one. The network’s advertising page says what has been measured so far and since when, and quotes no number nobody counted. To talk about a placement, email us.
Chambers and community groups
A chamber, a library, a recreation district or a volunteer group can work with the guide for nothing: sharing verified events, sending corrections and closures, and planning seasonal guides. The network’s partnership page says how, with a labeled example of what a small first pilot could look like. It is an example only: no partnership is implied by it, and none buys a place in the listings.
